Since the beginning, the core of Hiraeth has been human interactions. As well as producing our podcast and the digital magazine you are reading now, we love bringing people together to share stories, learn from one another, and collaborate in creative ways. Over the past few years we have curated performances of storytelling and poetry, presented at an academic conference, and joined forces with many artists, writers and cultural organisations to find new ways of honouring the human search for home.
New Creative Meetup
This year Hiraeth is beginning a new type of in-person event in Amsterdam, one designed to bring creative people of all kinds together over this shared human experience of migration and the longing for home. We want to provide a place for us to meet each other, make connections, and hatch new projects and collaborations. This creative meetup will be free, and hosted at a cosy café called Zamen, just a ten-minute walk from the Noorderpark stop of the new North-South metro line.
We’ll meet every two months on the second Sunday afternoon of the month, beginning in February. Each creative meetup will include a few short performances to get the creative juices flowing, but we mostly plan to get to know each other, find points of intersection, and see what magic comes out of a room full of interesting people.
Join us on February 10
February’s event has a bit of a bleak, February theme: “On Love, Death, Darkness and other Everyday Matters.” It will include poetry readings by JC 1/4, David Chislett, Jez Keighley and Robin Winkel, as well as live sketching action by Rachel Meyer of Therewise Enterprises. Would you like to perform at a future meetup? Contact us using this form.
Whether you are an artist, writer, activist, academic, educator, or other human who resonates with the theme of hiraeth, we look forward to meeting you!
